The United Nations remains engaged with all interested parties in the efforts to secure grain and fertilizer exports from Russia and Ukraine, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday.
"We remain engaged with all parties aiming to ensure safe and secure exports of grain and fertilizer from Russia and Ukraine," Guterres said during the UN General Assembly debate.
The UN chief emphasized the importance of putting the ongoing efforts on a stable footing without the repeated threat of interruption.
Guterres thanked Turkey for its contribution to resolve the issue and urged other member states to support the efforts to secure grain and fertilizer exports.
Volatility and uncertainty have already returned to international grain markets and a further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine could destabilize the region and further shock the markets, Guterres said.
