Russian Peacekeepers Evacuate 3,154 People Since Start of Nagorno-Karabakh Hostilities: MoD

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Azerbaijan on Tuesday launched "local-level anti-terrorist activities" to restore constitutional order in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. A day later, with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, an agreement on a ceasefire was reached.

Russian peacekeepers have evacuated 3,154 people, including 1,428 children since start of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Through the mediation of the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, an agreement was reached with the parties to the conflict on a complete end of hostilities …Since the beginning of active hostilities, Russian peacekeepers have evacuated civilians from the Martakert, Martuni and Askeran regions. 3,154 people were evacuated to the peacekeeping contingent, including 1,428 children,” the ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, the Russian peacekeepers have not detected any ceasefire violations since 13:00 local time (09:00 am GMT) on Wednesday.

The ministry also said that peacekeepers maintain interaction with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh to “avoid bloodshed” and ensure compliance with the humanitarian law.
