Russia's Shoigu Arrives in Tehran, Will Hold Talks With Iranian Military Leadership

A Russian delegation led by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for talks with Iran's military leadership, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"During the visit, the delegation of the Russian Defense Ministry will hold a number of talks with the military leadership of the republic," the statement said.

The visit will contribute to the strengthening of Russian-Iranian military ties and will become an important stage in the development of cooperation between the two countries, the ministry added.

Shoigu's visit comes nearly a month after an Iranian military delegation traveled to Moscow. Talks between the defense ministries were held on August 21 at the headquarters of the commander-in-chief of the Russian ground forces and focused on military interaction and cooperation in projects aimed at increased combat readiness of both countries' armed forces.
The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation between the land forces of both countries in various fields.
