Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi held a meeting with Burkinabe Foreign Minister Olivia Rouamba on Monday, during which he praised the increased exchange of mutual capacities and the expansion of economic cooperation between the two nations, the Iranian presidency said.
"The President described the activation of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between the two countries as effective in facilitating and accelerating the exchange of mutual capacities and improving the level of relations and expanding cooperation, and announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to transfer its experiences and achievements to friendly countries, especially in Africa," Raisi's office said in a statement.
Rouamba noted that African countries draw inspiration from Iran's Islamic Revolution in the face of arrogance and hegemony, the statement read. She described Iran as a country Burkina Faso hopes to strengthen cooperation with.
"Our most important agenda will be to activate the axes of cooperation with Iran," Rouamba was quoted in the statement as saying.
Last month, Iranian Ambassador to Burkina Faso Mojtaba Faghihi reportedly held negotiations with Rouamba in the Burkinabe capital, Ouagadougou, to address political and military stability in West Africa. They also exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations. Faghihi emphasized the importance of Iranian private businesses' participation in Burkina Faso as well as of the extension of economic, cultural and scientific contacts between the two countries.
