Nigerian singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, became the first African artist to top the UK album charts, the country's Official Charts Company said.
He achieved the feat following the release of his seventh studio album, "I Told Them," which saw the light of day on August 24.
The Afrobeats star commented on his achievement by saying, "I told them I'm the highest!"
Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, paid credit to Burna Boy for "blazing the trail" and landing a "fantastic achievement."
First Ever 'Africa Category' Added to Grammy Awards
Ebunoluwa Ogulu was close to winning the award with last year's album "Love, Damini" which reached number two in the UK album charts but lost to English singer Harry Styles with his "Harry's House" release.
According to the Official Charts, the Afrobeats genre is increasingly penetrating the UK charts with artists such as Wizkid and Davido, who also hail from Nigeria.
Afrobeat takes its name from the 1970s Afrobeat music genre that was popularized by music legend Fela Kuti and later went viral in Nigeria, capturing the world today.
