Rebels in Niger Reportedly Demand Withdrawal of French Troops by September 3

DOHA (Sputnik) – Niger's National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) has demanded the complete withdrawal of French troops from the West African country by September 3, the Sky News Arabia broadcaster reported on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, Al Arabiya reported that the CNSP had announced the annulment of all security and military agreements with France.
By the end of the week, supporters of the pullout are going to stage an indefinite protest against the presence of the French military in Niger. Some residents demand that the authorities cut water and power supply to the French base, as well as halt food deliveries, the report said.
Last week, the Nigerien Foreign Ministry decided to deprive French Ambassador Sylvain Itte of agrement and ask him to leave the country within 48 hours. Paris said that took note of Niger's request to ambassador, but noted that rebels have no authority to make such decisions.
