A witness told Sputnik Africa about the situation in Gabon's capital, Libreville, where the military had announced a seizure of power.
"Here in Libreville, the capital of Gabon, since 4 am, when the election results were announced, the army has more or less controlled the situation, since the government first announced the victory of candidate Ali Bongo Ondimba. After a while, the military intervened and decided to take over," said Brice Alain Mbadinga, a local businessman.
He says he heard "screams of joy" from people "thanking the military for coming to power, as evidenced by the videos."
"So in the capital at the moment people are sitting at home. What's for sure is that we won't be working today, and business is a bit disrupted. So we are here, watching what happens in the coming hours, days and weeks. In any case, for now, the military is in power and has decided to take matters into their own hands," he noted.
