Renowned Kenyan runner Faith Kipyegon said in an interview to local media that she expects more accomplishments from herself after the great season 2023, during which the athlete broke three world records at a distance of 1,500m, the mile (1609.3m) and 5,000m and won two gold medals on World Athletics Championships for 1,500m and 5,000m.
"I have seen my life change step by step. I was not expecting to run three world records and after that two gold medals in the world championship," she said.
Kipyegon added that she wants to reach new heights "to empower young girls out there to know that everything is possible in life."
The runner also shared with the media that she haven't still fully acknowledged her recent success.
"I can't underrate myself, I can still do more. I still don't believe I'm the 5,000m world record holder, it was my third 5,000m race since doing so eight years ago," the athlete told reporters.
As for the upcoming competitions, in which the Kenyan athlete also intends to succeed, Kipyegon will reportedly take part in the Diamond League Final in Eugene, the United States, from September 16-17. She also confirmed her participation in the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia on October 1, the media said.
The World Athletics Championships 2023 took place on August 19-27 in Budapest, where Kipyegon came first in the 5,000 race and overtook her main rival, the Dutch runner Sifan Hassan, at a 1,500m distance.
