Putin, Modi Discuss Upcoming G20 Summit, Format of Participation to Be Announced, Kremlin Says

On September 9-10, India's capital, New Delhi will host the 18th summit of the Group of 20 major economies (G20), consisting of 19 countries and the European Union (EU). The event will be the culmination of all G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year with the participation of ministers, senior officials and civil society.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the upcoming G20 summit during a telephone conversation, the format of the Russian head of state's participation in it will be announced later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sputnik on Monday.

"As we wrote, the issue was discussed. We will inform you about the format of participation additionally," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov Peskov told Sputnik

Earlier in the day, the Kremlin said that Putin and Modi discussed by phone the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi, agreements reached within the framework of BRICS, energy projects and space cooperation.
Moreover, the Indian prime minister's office added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov could represent Russia at the upcoming G20 summit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin informed about the inability to participate in the G20 summit that will take place in New Delhi on September 9-10 and said that Russia will be represented by Lavrov, the office of Indian Prime Minister said.
Modi thanked Putin for Russia's consistent support of all initiatives within the framework of India's G20 presidency, the statement read.
