BRICS Summit to Discuss Possible Expansion, Global Agenda, Kremlin Says

South Africa's Johannesburg will host a summit of the BRICS bloc starting Tuesday, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, accounting for nearly a third of the world's GDP and about 40% of the world's population.

The upcoming BRICS summit this week will discuss the organization's possible expansion, global and regional agenda, and development prospects, the Kremlin said on Monday.
The Kremlin also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the August 22-24 summit online.
"At the meetings of the summit, as well as during the informal meeting of leaders, topical issues of the association's activities will be discussed, including the issues of its possible expansion, the global and regional agenda, prospects for further development of the BRICS partnership in the political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other fields," the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Kremlin mentioned that the Russian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be present in South Africa.
