Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud named Abdihakim Yusuf as a new Chief of Staff on Friday, Villa Somalia, the country's presidency, said in a statement.
According to the statement, Yusuf is an international development professional with deep expertise and more than 20 years of work experience in institutional development, good governance and capacity building in fragile and conflict-affected states.
"He also brings a deep understanding of the peace and conflict dynamics, inclusive politics, economic reforms and human rights," the statement read.
Previously, he served as senior presidential advisor at the Office of the President's National Policy Coordination Unit. In this role, he advised the Somali leader on negotiations with key international partners.
It was noted that throughout his career, Yusuf has been also involved in managing major peacebuilding and development initiatives in the country, working with local communities, civil society and government institutions.
President Mohamud, for his part, said that he trusts Yusuf to perform with diligence and expects him to serve the nation well.
