The Egyptian cabinet of ministers approved the decision of Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker to fix the selling prices of electricity currently in effect and postpone the implementation of the planned increase in the approved electricity selling price tariff for another six months until January 2024.
The decision was made to ensure the social protection of citizens in light of the current economic situation, the cabinet added.
Several governorates of Egypt and the Greater Cairo Region experienced power outages in the second half of July. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly then said that the reduction in the electricity load was caused by a severe heatwave and an increase in energy consumption.
Later, the Egyptian authorities developed a plan aimed at rationalizing energy consumption.
