The Bokamoso Choir from Pretoria in South Africa has returned home with three medals and an immense amount of joy after being crowned champions of the World Choir Games held in South Korea.
The choir from Mabopane, a town located north of Pretoria, likened their experience to the prestigious events of the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.
"Winning these gold medals has put us in a better position because now we are sitting at number four in the world standings," the choir’s leader, told media. This has officially launched our name worldwide and will open some doors for us," choir head Nceba Mdaka said. "We want to use arts and music as a get-away from poverty for these talented people."
The World Choir Games attracted over 46 countries and 400 choirs, providing a platform for talented vocal ensembles from around the world to showcase their abilities and compete.
According to reports, over the course of 11 days, more than 110,000 individuals gathered in South Korea's Gangneung to celebrate the power of music at the World Choir Games.
