The Russian Navy's training ship "Perekop" with cadets on board, which is on a long voyage, has arrived in Havana Bay on July 11, the Russian diplomatic mission reported.
"The training and combat ship "Perekop" was greeted at the entrance to the bay with 21 volleys of artillery fire. Perekop also greeted the brotherly people of Cuba," the diplomatic mission said in a blog post on Twitter.
The ship's call will last for several days, during which the sailors will replenish fuel, water and food supplies, as well as take part in protocol and various cultural events, and see the sights of the city.
The Russian Navy's training ship "Perekop" began a long-distance campaign when it left the Baltic sea port of Kronstadt on 20 June. It took 14 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea after crossing the English Channel.
In total, about 200 2nd and 4th year students from the St Petersburg Naval Institute and students from the Black Sea Higher Naval School named after P.S. Nakhimov, as well as the Naval Polytechnic Institute, are on board the training ship.
The ship will visit a number of Caribbean countries, as well as South America and Africa, to provide naval training for cadets from naval universities. It is due to return to the main base in September.
