Civilian Plane Crashes at Aden Adde International Airport in Somalia's Capital

Images posted on social media show a Halla Airline plane that veered off the runway in the capital city of Mogadishu, with a partially separated cockpit lying next to a low concrete wall.

A small civilian plane, identified as 60-AAD, has crash-landed on the runway at the Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has confirmed in a press release.

"An aircraft type E120, operated by Halla Airline, crash landed on runway 05 at Aden Adde International Airport today, 11th July 2023, at 12:23 pm local time," read the statement.

According to the authority, a total of 34 passengers and crew members were on board. It was noted that there were no fatalities from the accident and only "minor injuries."
Following the accident, Minister of Transport and Aviation Fardowsa Osman Egal confirmed that two people were injured in the plane crash. She noted that emergency services were quick to provide medical assistance to those in need.
"The emergency team responded quickly to the incident. Investigations by the relevant departments are ongoing," she said.
The minister further elaborated that the accident occurred when the front wheels fell off as soon as the aircraft landed. Authorities are now investigating the case to find out what exactly caused the mechanical failure.
