An Algerian mother has taken advantage of the protests that erupted in the streets of several French cities to pay homage to the culinary traditions of her native country at the beginning of the Muslim religious holiday of Eid al-Adha.
In the midst of urban violence, this woman and her two daughters decided to cook a meal in the middle of the street.
She brought leftover lamb to roast in the open air over a bonfire lit by protesters.
A video of the woman accompanied by comments from a person, believed to be one of her daughters, has done the rounds on the internet.
"Mother, don't hide! This opportunity comes once in a lifetime."
Asked about her motives, the mother replied that she wanted to use the embers already lit to cook her meat. "I'm taking advantage since there's fire," she said nonchalantly, quoted by her daughter on social networks.

Origins of the Riots

On June 27, police killed Nahel, a 17-year-old boy during a traffic check in Nanterre when, according to security forces, he refused to comply with their demands.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 719 people were arrested on the night of July 1 to 2 alone during the fifth evening of violence.
At least 45 police officers and gendarmes were wounded, 577 cars and 74 buildings were burned, and 871 fires were recorded on public roads.
The minister of the interior gave "firm instructions" and demanded that "arrests continue to be made as soon as possible," his entourage said.
