Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda announced that the military contingents of a number of African States, together with the army of Mozambique, have almost completed the operation to defeat terrorist formations in the north of this country.
Rwandan soldiers are taking part in the fighting in the northern Mozambique province of Cabo Delgado.
Speaking about the situation in Cabo Delgado, Kagame stressed that "the security problem there is 80% solved", the Mozambique portal Club of Mozambique quoted him as saying on Thursday.
An attack by militants on the town of Palma in Cabo Delgado in 2021 led international energy companies, including TotalEnergies, to suspend work on a $120 billion gas project there.
"Total Energie and other investors are already considering the possibility of resuming operations," Kagame said. "This will be possible thanks to joint efforts to ensure security."
The terrorist groups Ansar al-Sunna and ISCAP (a branch of the Daesh* banned in Russia) have been operating in Cabo Delgado for several years, trying to gain control of the territory of Mozambique.
Since 2017, more than 3,000 people have died at the hands of terrorists in the north of the country and, according to the UN, 900,000 have become refugees.
* Daesh (also known as ISIS/ISIL/IS) is a terrorist organization banned in Russia and many other countries.
