Algerian neurosurgeon Nawel Habchi has been recognized by the International Women Parliament as one of its Women Leaders of the Year. She received an "Iconic Women award", taking her place among the ten leading women in their field in 2023. She distinguished herself in the neurosurgery and biology category.
At the end of April, Nawel Habchi made a name for herself by becoming editor-in-chief of the medical journal of the University of Victoria in London, one of the most prestigious in the UK.
She also taught at the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene in Algiers (USTHB) for almost 12 years, before joining the neurosurgery department at the Mustapha Bacha Hospital in Algiers.
Earlier this year, several other African personalities were honored with an "Iconic Women award". South African lawyer Natasha Mohunlal won in the entrepreneur category. Mauritian Kallychurn Arshiya Upasnaa was nominated in the education category.
