5G technology improves the speed of communication, decision-making and "all of this will lead to an increase in productivity", which, in its turn, will "boost the economic development of Africa," according to Daniel Adeyemi, a former senior reporter for TechCabal and tech journalist, explains.
Contemplating on the positive effects of implementing 5G in African nations, Adeyemi notes that the 5G technology could affect the agriculture sector, since “farmers need real-time data and insights to help them improve their yields and productivity”.
Adeyemi points out that 5G facilitates "access to better jobs", meaning "people could actually save enough to float [their] own business”.
At the same time, implementation of 5G in Africa faces a variety of challenges. One of the biggest, according to Adeyemi, is a steady and stable supply of electricity, which “could determine the difference between access to Internet and not”.
However attractive the technology may be, it, like every innovation, it comes with its own risks, Adeyemi argues.
“The same way we can achieve good outcomes faster - such as access to educational materials and healthcare - the same way hackers can move and steal things faster,” Adeyemi says.
But ultimately that depends on the “human factor, how people use it”.
