The Sputnik News Agency held its first-ever master class for journalists from Botswana as a part of the SputnikPro project, Sputnik’s project for teaching and sharing experience with journalists.
Correspondents from leading Botswana media outlets listened to the lecture by advisor of "Rossiya Segodnya" International News Agency Oleg Dmitriev on fact-checking and the impact of the fake news phenomenon on the modern media industry. The event was supported by the Russian Embassy in Botswana.
The ambassador stated the importance of the meeting on the eve of Russia-Africa summit “in the program of which significant place is given not only to political but also to economic and humanitarian issues” and added that "this [meeting] is one of the guarantees of this important forum".
At the end of the event, Oleg Dmitriev said: "It is very pleasant to realize that the lecture for journalists of the Republic of Botswana was of interest to journalists who asked questions on current events and the principles of media work. And I believe that if it is interesting for both the embassy and journalists in Botswana, it is a good start for future long-term cooperation".
