Ukrainian Sabotage Group Retreats From Belgorod Region After Being Hit by Artillery: Russia's MoD

Earlier, Belgorod Region's governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that Russian forces were fighting a Ukrainian sabotage group in the Russian rural locality of Novaya Tavolzhanka.

A Ukrainian sabotage group retreated from Novaya Tavlozhanka after being hit by Russian artillery, Russia's defense ministry said on Sunday.

"On June 4, [Russian Armed Forces] units covering the state border of the Western Military District and the border service of the Federal Security Service of Russia detected an attempt by a sabotage and reconnaissance group of Ukrainian terrorists to cross the river near the settlement of Novaya Tavolzhanka, Belgorod Region. An artillery strike was inflicted on the enemy. The enemy was dispersed and retreated," said the body.

Earlier, Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of the Belgorod Region said that fighting was underway between Russian forces and a Ukrainian sabotage group in the western Russian village of Novaya Tavolzhanka.
"They entered as a sabotage and intelligence-gathering group. A battle is underway in Novaya Tavolzhanka. I hope they will all be eliminated," Gladkov said in a video address on social media.

He added that he is ready to discuss on Sunday at the Shebekino automobile checkpoint the issue of prisoners who, presumably, were captured by the Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group.

"I saw the appeal of the scoundrels, murderers and fascists who allegedly want to meet with me, offering a conversation on prisoners [...] The only thing that stops me from meeting with them is our boys in their hands. Most likely, they killed them. How would I It's hard to say this, but if they are alive, from 17 to 18 – Shebekino checkpoint, I guarantee safety," Gladkov said in a video message published on social media.

Recently, Russia's western Belgorod region has been under increasingly frequent attacks by Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups as well as shelling by Ukraine's artillery.
At the end of May, a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group entered the territory of the Graivoron district of the Belgorod region, after which a counter-terrorist operation regime was introduced in the region. Later, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that the Ukrainian nationalist formations that had invaded the Belgorod region had been defeated, more than 70 terrorists had been killed. In the evening of the same day, the CTO regime was canceled. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced the initiation of a criminal case under six articles, including a terrorist attack.
