Russia Can Provide Africa With 'Know-How' on Media Sovereignty, Algerian Minister Says

The sovereignty of Africa depends, among other things, on independence in the media field. In this sense, countries like Russia could bring added value to the continent which would not say no to outside cooperation, the Algerian minister of communication told Sputnik.

"Africa's sovereignty in the media sector is paramount. It is necessary […]. The partnership of Russia, China and also some Latin American countries is a positive point for Africa because we need the know-how of these countries; they are great countries," Algerian Minister of Communications Mohamed Bouslimani told Sputnik on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB-UAR) held in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to Bouslimani, the countries of the continent will always look favorably on any aid coming from outside, while aspiring at all costs to their sovereignty and their independence in all areas, including economic and political, like Algeria.
For the Algerian minister, in this interconnected and multipolar world, Africa is transforming itself with the use of new information and communication technologies. Bouslimani gave the example of his home Algeria, which has made digitization its priority by going so far as to create the Ministry of Digitization and Statistics.

"Digitalization is a priority for us. And we hope to expand this [process] to all African countries because it is about the future of Africa," he insisted.
